Hey!!

October 31, 2006

Although you may have read my bio, my name is Joe Levy. I am a junior English major/Mathematics Minor (I know, both subjects that people usually cringe at). In high school math and english were my two best subjects.
When I first got here, I went with Math as my major, but soon found that English was my passion and I figured it’d be more beneficial to my interests (and GPA) to slide the Math down to a minor and make English my major. Since doing so, it’s been phenomenal! I’m glad to have made the switch.

Even though I moved it down to a minor, I still very much enjoy math. I have to tell you about the math test I had on Monday. Currently I’m in Discrete Math II, and don’t worry, I’m still trying to figure out exactly what that title means. Anyways, I had a huge test on Monday and I studied for over 10 hours this weekend to prepare for it (this wouldn’t have been so bad, except for the fact that I also had to write a paper, read a play, and read a chapter in a textbook). I don’t know my grade yet, but I flew through my test. There was only one problem that I wasn’t sure about, but other than that, I felt like I was flying through the homework problems! So, I have a great feeling that I did well. I was so happy when I left the class, I forgot for a little bit how I still needed to write the paper, read the play, and do the other homework! It’s just the end of a crunch post-midterm period where I had a lot of work to do, but thankfully, I’m almost through it.

I’ll be sure to give more information about my involvement and things going on in following blogs, but for now, I had to announce and allow you to join in the celebration of my hopeful “A” on my math test.

Until next time, take care and be studious!
-Joe

Time Flies When You’re Having Fun!

October 31, 2006

Although it’s the first blog of the year, I feel like I have so much to catch up on! This year is flying by and I can’t believe I am old enough to be a junior in college, pretty scary. So far all of my classes are going really well, I have been working a lot, and getting ready to study abroad in Australia in the spring! The past two years I played on the women’s basketball team at B-W but with the opportunity to go to Australia I decided not to play this year. Although it was a tough decision to make, I feel it was the right one. I know I will miss it more once the games start, but as of now I am enjoying my time away doing what I want to do and focusing on school work and being a normal college student again. I definitely miss the team though! I have been super busy between working and school and also some extra-curricular activities. Even though I am no longer an athlete, I am still the secretary of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). It takes a good amount of time to keep things running smoothly, and I am also active in the up and coming Sport Management Club. It has been a busy semester but it has been going really really well. I can’t believe that Christmas break is quickly approaching too… where has the time gone? I am looking forward to relaxing at home, but I will still be busy with Australia preparations. I am leaving on February 7th or 8th so I need to get things in order. The only drawback about leaving in February is that I have to spend an extra month at home over the break. Most of you are thinking I need to stop complaining but I will miss my friends who are still at school here and my friends from home will all be at their respective colleges so it will get kind of lonely. Basically I am just in amazement that this year is almost half over. You know what they say, “time flies when you are having fun!”

Back to Action

October 31, 2006

Hello Prospective Students,
I’m back again due to high demand. I guess I’m just that exciting.
Probably not though.

Anyway, I have had a wonderful begin of the semester. Let me tell you (you here equaling perspective English students) that the English department teachers are a blast. This semester I am in two English class: Creative Writing Wksp (Eng-233) and World Literature (Eng-2??). For Creative Writing I have Professor Dan Hoyt, who is also my advisor. I recommend him for both advising and teaching. I have so much fun in that class, which is saying something because it’s an 8:25 class. Yea, a wee bit early, but fun nonetheless. And for World Lit, I have Dr. Dolzani. I don’t think I’ve ever taken a class with someone more intelligent or more entertaining than Dr. Dolzani. I’m going to take every class he offers (if I can). We have read the Iliad and the Odyssey so far, and both were just amazing. I love that class. Anyway, I’m going to stop typing, or else I wouldn’t have enough to write about next time. Speaking of which….Come soon to Robin’s Blog: NON-ENGLISH CLASSES!!! Join us next week, same BW time, same BW place. This is Robin, have a great day Berea and the greater Cleveland area.

Hi!

October 27, 2006

Hi! I guess my bio gives it away, but I’m Megan. I’m a junior music education major and horn player. I was really excited to be asked to be the Conservatory blogger. Writing is something I really enjoy and I’m glad to have an opportunity to write something aside from papers for class.

Right now you’re probably being inundated with all the college viewbooks and mailers from all sorts of schools. I know that when I was making my college decision, I spent hours pouring over all the materials they sent me, but until I had the opportunity to visit the campus and experience a little bit of daily life, I didn’t feel like I had enough information to choose one school over another. In this blog I hope to give you an insider’s view of a Conservatory student’s life so that you can some of the things that cannot be described in the college brochures. I love Baldwin-Wallace (I worked at Interlochen Arts Camp this summer and people often told me that they had never met someone who loved their school so much,) but I will definitely try my best to present a holistic view of my life here which is stressful, challenging, and draining, as well as rewarding, fast paced, and fun.

Why did you choose B-W?: I chose B-W because when I visited the campus I was impressed in the beauty of the campus and the city of Berea, I was impressed with the schools great education program, the location of being close enough to home and still living on campus, the size of the school because I didn’t want to be just a student ID number at a state college, and B-W was by far the friendliest campus I visited.

Tell us about yourself in 100 words: I grew up in Lorain Ohio but my family moved my sophomore year in high school to North Ridgeville Ohio where I graduated from N. Ridgeville HS. I am the first member of my family to attend college. I plan on work in a school system teaching history and possibly getting my masters in guidance education (to be a guidance councilor).

I also discovered the greatness of ancient Greek/ Roman works, such as the Iliad and the Odyssey also thanks to B-W. Over the summer, I became really interested in cooking and the Culinary Arts. I took a couple of cooking class this summer to improve my already fantastic abilities as a chef. When I’m not studying diligently, I turn on the Food Network to see what Bobby Flay or Emeril is whipping up.

Tell us about yourself in 100 words: The most prominent feature about me at B-W is that I’m Indian. I love my country and miss it. But B-W is my second home and I enjoy every second of being here. I have the most wonderful family and friends back home and miss them dearly. Thank god for the internet I get to keep in touch with them and feel like they are not far away. Not to mention I have some amazing friends here at BW and basically everyone I know makes a difference in my life. Swimming is my passion and BW swim team is more like family to me. I always knew that I wanted to study Business because I’ve had a fascination for counting money ever since I knew what money was. I take life as it comes, and do not believe in planning everything 5 years in advance. I love meeting people and making new friends. I talk a lot and like listening too.
