Buzzy’s New Service!

February 28, 2007

I can’t tell you how excited I was to receive the campus bulletin yesterday. The last item on the agenda brought great news to my hungry and impatient stomach… Buzzy’s will now be taking call ahead orders!!! Buzzy’s is an on campus sandwich shop (think Subway) / convenient store. The sandwiches are great but there is always a really long line because it’s so popular. It’s open later than the Union so it’s especially crowded in the evenings; however, they have made it possible for students to order ahead and pick up their sandwich later!! I can’t wait to use this very convenient service! (can you tell it’s right before lunch? haha)

My final from the Grinch

February 28, 2007

Hello all, first i’d like to clarify something. No teacher of mine is mean like the grinch but one of them looks just like him. His smile curves up on the edges and everything. I won’t tell you which of my teachers, you’ll just have to take all of them to find out. But anyway, my final that the Grinch will be giving be is going to be nasty. He might as well steal Spring Break. I’ve been studying for a week already (okay, fine,it’s for my US History 101 class) and i still have like eight to ten hours more to study. Aside from that, my week won’t be too bad. i have two other mid terms but they are nothing compared to this. Well, i’ll let y’all know how i did. have a good spring break.

Success!

February 27, 2007

So, my play was a big success! There were about 140 people or so there, which is a larger crowd than last year. The actors did really well too - no real mess-ups or anything like that. Everyone seemed to enjoy the show and I immediately began getting questions and requests for another one :)

A lot of stress is off my shoulders now that the production is over. One of the byproducts of the production is that it was a fundraiser for MNM. We made over $300 - which is awesome! So, although I don’t get academic credit or anything like that, at least the money made will go to a good cause! Thanks to all that came and supported the show!

I miss Swim Team:(

February 26, 2007

So today was the day we had to clean out our lockers and turn in all our equipment to coach. Going back to our locker room and having to clean up made me real sad. Not getting to swim with some of the most wonderful seniors made it even worse. I wish we could all just go to the pool every so often and have some fun in the water without having to do serious practice. :) But I look forward to April 1st, we have our swim/dive banquet that day and I get to see all my team mates together for one last time this year.
Now for something not as sad, I was reading Alyson’s blog and I am a tiny bit jealous, hehe! Of her going to the beach and just having lovely weather in general and of course being in Australia. But talking of that, I can’t wait for this summer, I get to go home again:) I need to book my ticket and once I do, I definitely will have a countdown:) So keep a watch for that. And have a good week!

Into the swing of things..

February 26, 2007

Hi everyone! So I’ve been in Australia for 3 weeks and I’m starting to feel a little more “at home”. We are in our 2nd week of classes this week which hopefully will make the time go by a little faster. The school part is a lot more lax than at B-W but I guess that is all a part of the experience. I am starting to get accustomed to the apartments, the University, and the surrounding areas. I am becoming a master of the public transportation system because it is my link to the sunny beach! The weather started out kind of crappy but it has turned around in the past few days. On Sunday we went to the Australia Zoo, founded by famed Australian Steve Irwin. It was definitely a lot of fun and very educational. It’s amazing the impact Steve Irwin had on the world, Australia, and especially this region. He is from this area and is definitely loved and missed by all. He is considered a national hero to all the people around here. One of my childhood best friends is coming to visit on Saturday so I am definitely looking forward to that. She is coming for 8 days for her spring break and I am definitely excited for a piece of home to come and visit! We are going to have a blast! My family is coming in about a month and maybe my boyfriend in 2 months. I am blessed to have people coming to visit me since some people are not quite as lucky. I have so much more to look forward to, I can’t wait!

Just another week!

February 25, 2007

I’m so excited that we just another week of school before spring break. I can’t wait to go to Alabama, get to see my cousin and be in the warmth. For me, I just have another 4 days of classes, since my awesome schedule I have no class on Fridays:) I leave only on Saturday so that gives me a good 2 days to do laundry and pack etc.
This weekend was amazing. I got to go a fraternity formal event on Friday and that was my first time and I really enjoyed myself. Saturday was achievement awards, and I think that is my favorite Admissions event. I got to interview and meet some amazingly talented high school seniors. Also, we got to eat the absolutely delicious food our union cooked for lunch:)
So that was my weekend, I hope everyone has a good week and I will keep you updated on how my week goes.

Band and Orchestra

February 23, 2007

Hard to believe it’s the middle of the semester already! New Horizons Band, the band for older adults I intern with and I’m sure I’ve written about before, started up this week. I am the administrative assistant for the program and the first week is always crazy, trying to pass out all the music and get people where they need to be, but this week actually went a lot smoother than I thought I would. I even got to play in band for a few minutes. Last semester that didn’t happen until like week 6! The internships are one of the best things about our music ed program. Right from first semester freshman year, you get to teach and begin to build up your bag of “teacher tricks” so that by the time you get to student teach, it’s not totally overwhelming. A lot of the wind players intern with New Horizons Band, the string players have a partnership with William Cullent Bryant Elementary School where they run the string program there, and many of the vocalists intern with the Baldwin-Wallace Honors Chorale, a group for middle and high school students.
Last night we had an orchestra concert. We played Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony. It was one of the coolest things I’ve played in. There was a lot of energy in the ensemble and the audience. It’s so fun to be a part of that. This year has been challenging for me and my horn, so it’s nice to have those moments that remind you why you love it. Have a good weekend :)

Spring Break Is Almost Here!

February 23, 2007

I am so excited for my alternative spring break trip!!! Every year the Office of Community Outreach sponsors alternative break trips giving students the opportunity to do service in another part of the country. This year I am going on a trip to Cherokee, North Carolina to work with Native Americans. I can’t wait to go because I have never worked with Native Americans so it should be great to learn about another culture. We are going to be doing physical work in the mornings and working with children in the afternoons. This is my first alternative break trip so it should be a wonderful experience. Hopefully the weather will be warmer too!! ha ha Anyway, until then I have to finish all of my work because I won’t have access to a computer…plus who wants to write a paper in North Carolina??? Have a good weekend!

BUSY/Murder Mystery!

February 22, 2007

BUSY BUSY BUSY! That’s been my week. Luckily, Orientation interviews are half over, and the Mid-Night Madness interviews I had are over. Just need to make the final decisions for MNM and send out those letters. As for Orientation, need to keep interviewing and making decisions as well.

I STILL have so many large projects ahead of me these next few days though. Tonight, I’m in charge of MNM’s event “Deal or No Deal”. It’s just like the TV show, only we get faculty/staff and student organizations to hold the cases; a better representative of B-W than would be the lovely models they have on the show :)

ALSO, if you haven’t noticed the sidebanner, I have a play this Saturday! The show will be at 9pm in the Student Activities Center, tickets are $2 cash and all benefits go towards MNM (nice little fundraiser for an organization I hold dear). I wrote, directed, and cast the play. This is my third time doing this here at B-W; it’s always a blast and always has a great turn out. It’s still incredible for me to believe that I have the opportunity to do such an amazing thing; I never thought I’d be able to write a play, let alone do all the production stuff too! Being that I have all this other jazz going on, it’s been a little tricky to make sure all the production aspects go off and I don’t forget anything.

Needless to say, it has been a BUSY week! But this weekend should be very rewarding with my play and come Sunday, I’ll have A LOT less stress :) I’ll check back in next week!

Hangin with Mr. Spann

February 20, 2007

Hello all, thought i’d update y’all on my life here at BW. this week, after what i would consider a weak string of MNMs is the savior: Deal or No Deal. I hate that show but i love it in real life (it’s still annoying but i’m addicted to it) so i’m looking forward to MNM this week. also this week is the opening of Lend Me A Tenor starring Ryan Jagru (my roommate) so i’ll probably see that twice. all you future students should come see it so you can see the amazing job the BW theatre crew and cast can put on. Also, this weekend is the Oscars. I’m a big movie person, so this is a great ending to a potentially great week here at BW. til next time.
