Happy Halloween

October 31, 2008

So it’s finally Halloween, and I have to say that the vibe of this holiday is amazing. I love, LOVE walking around and seeing the decorated houses, it just gives me this great feeling of nostalgia. I’m tempted to put on a costume and pretend I’m young and trick or treat. Well, maybe not, but the atmosphere of the campus has been great. I walked into Lang dining hall and really impressed with the decoration in there, and a lot of the decorated houses on and around campus have been very mood lifting. I went home today for a dentist appointment, but I’m back at BW and ready to get out. Good news: I not only got my class registration taken care of, but I figured out my costume. I’m going to be a lumberjack… it’s definitely a cop-out idea, but it’s easy and I really can’t think of anything else. BW had an exciting Halloween last year, so here’s a big Happy Halloween! to everyone out there.

Halloween and Election

October 31, 2008

So this weekend is work filled to the extreme. But tonight, i’m going to relax and go to my friend’s Halloween party. That should be fun. Then tomorrow and Sunday is all botany all the time. And tuesday, well I’m looking forward to Tuesday. Not because I’m excited to vote in my first Presidential election (i voted via absentee ballot already) and i’m not excited bout the winning canidate (I support Obama, but if he doesn’t win my world isn’t going to end). No, i’m excited because I won’t have to hear EVER college student say “Oh, Barack is going to change things! YAY!” anymore. I’m so tired of all college students supporting Obama and not knowing why. If i have to hear one more person tell me that Barack is the canidate for change and then not be able to follow up with ANY of his policies, then i might literally explode. I mean it’s good people are going to vote this election, but i wish people who will vote knew just one thing about obama and mccain. like, educate yourselves!!! Well, i’m off to get some reading done (Botany) before this Halloween party. Catch you on the flip.

Whoa…

So I haven’t been on in a while, sorry guys!
This whole transition to having midterms is completely different from high school. Dont get me wrong. I LOVE IT! It just requires a huge chunk of studying time. Well a lot has happened in the past week. As I was traveling back from Chicago on fall break, I accidently took someone else’s luggage off of the megabus!

I know right, terrible!

Well I just got a call on Monday saying they have located my luggage and they are shipping it this week to me! Now all that is left is that I have to send this random luggage back to them. School is awesome. I had a huge psychology test today which I hope I aced. Also, I’m applying to be on Mid Night Madness committee for spring 2009. It is a program that runs school wide events on Thursday nights from 11- 1 am. It’s an alternative to drinking in college and I have loved every event that they have done so far.

Finally, my new muse Lady GaGa just came out with her album The Fame on Tuesday!

You all should go on itunes and buy it. She’s absolutely amazing. My favorite songs are Just Dance, Poker Face, and Paparazzi.

Its been very ……. eventful.
Until Next Time!

pre-Halloween

October 30, 2008

Coming up tomorrow is my favorite holiday of the year: Halloween. Of course, I haven’t decided on any kind of costume to wear. This has been a crazy week for me and I’ve meant to find one, but it’s been tough. Me and some friends wanted to do a group costume like last year, but it’s A) going to be tough to top the Village People and B) we plain couldn’t think of much anything. We thought we struck gold when we came up with the clown goonies from the beginning of the newest Batman movie. We would’ve only needed the masks, too. But those had to be ordered online, and boys will be boys since we never got around to ordering them and here we are a day before Halloween without costumes. I’ll get around to it later, but first I need to register my classes. Due to… complications… I have been trying to get this done for three days nonstop now, and it’s driving me up the wall. But I’ll be happy once it’s all done with, and I just hope I get the schedule I want. So hopefully tomorrow I’ll have a costume, schedule for next semester, and plenty of rest.

Fiction

October 30, 2008

Last week I started my second mini-mester course: Intro to Fiction. I had Intro to Poetry my first semester, and even though I’m all about Walt Whitman and Shakespeare, Poetry class wasn’t really my favorite. So I am consequently VERY excited about reading some prose!!! My professor is probably the most charismatic person I have ever met. He is ridiculously amusing and knows exactly how to get the class excited about whatever we are talking about. I seriously get extremely excited when I think about it!

Every day we basically just discuss one story that we’ve read but Prof Harakas drags us into, envelopes us in every aspect of the writing. One thing that I love is when he has us read dialogue as if we are in the story, as if we feel what the speaker feels. And then all of a sudden it isn’t just a series of words on the page or a random string of events, it’s a work of fiction and it’s beautiful!

I can’t wait until Friday for our next class!!!

Life after BW - an international perspective

October 29, 2008

Hey everyone,
So at random times throughout the school year, different departments at BW have former students come back to talk to current students about life after BW. This is always a great opportunity to hear about life paths one can take in the future, and for those still undecided, it can help make the decision easier. Today, a BW grad from 1994 came back to the International Studies department to talk about how he has wound up as the owner and Executive Director of International Strategic Analysis, a company that he started after working for Goodyear in Luxembourg and Germany and after working for another big name company based in England. It was really interesting to hear what he had to say. He emphasized the experience gained while studying abroad and how good it looks on a resume. He chose a non-traditional study abroad area in 1993, going to Hungary just a few years after the Berlin Wall fell. He said that experience was really important to him and that the more international internships or experiences one has, the better your resume will turn out. I also emphasized going to graduate school within the early years after leaving undergraduate, as there aren’t as many ties to hold you back from doing so (as in having a family, a strict job, etc.). In the area of languages, he mentioned that in all the resumes his company has been receiving lately (and it is a very good company, with the British and Australian Governments as just two of the clients) that he has noticed a lack of Asian languages among Americans applying for jobs. The Asian market is booming and BW now offers two years worth of Chinese, so that might be an area of interest for anyone looking at going into IS or International Business. There are also people who take classes at Tri-C (Cuyahoga Community College) for BW credit, and they offer Japanese.

Everybody has to love the same thing. This thing is called the computer…

I’ve been bombarded with papers and group projects that it’s been a lil hectic. What better way to express my disdain for paper writing than to write a blog? LOL.

Anyways, an update on life here at B-W. My roommate and I were able to fit a couch into our room and the room looks amazing. I got a new lense for my camera, and been doing some awesome shots.

The weather is colder than ever. The snow is coming down in little pellets and it hits you in the eye and it hurts…

YAYAYAYYAYAYAA!!! I’m going to have to invest in an electric blanket sometime… It’s so cold.

‘Till next time.

Brummagem: B-W’s Glorified Photo Scavenger Hunt

October 26, 2008

Helloooooo Everybody! Friday was a crazy day. If someone told you to run around, complete a mission, and have the chance to win $400 would you do it? I know I did. My team of 4, named the “Pink Hippos of Chaos”, participated in something called Brummagem. This is the third year of Brummagem, and it is hosted by the C.A.B, which is the “Commuters Activity Board” of B-W.

So here’s what you do. You can take up to 150 photos of whatever you may like. Somethings are worth more points than others. Several categories include: places, people, multiples, and expressions. 2 people from the group must always be in the picture with the certain category. What made this even more fun was running in the rain, running in the rain makes everything even more crazier, but it’s all good fun.

Here’s some pics

First one-People - Marc West
Second one - Expression - “Man’ those are big!”
Third - Place - C.A.B. Office
Fourth - Item - “Be There” Mini-cooper

Sadly, we didn’t win. But we will be triumphant next year.
Until then….
Stay Classy San Diego

October 25, 2008

Hola to all of you out there. Hope you’re having a nice weekend, enjoying what’s left of the fall. College is being pretty same old for now, but in the Con, we’re getting ready for the upcoming concerts for the FOCUS Festival. This year, we’re bringing in chinese composer, Chen Yi, a significant contemporary female composer. Additionally, everyone’s getting scheduling done now. I’m struggling with my schedule, since I went over by half a credit due to a lab in Chemistry, which means i’m possibly paying more for next semester, a real pain. On the bright side, I’m almost done with my core, so I can spend the rest of my college career focused on my majors.

btw: to all people, choir concert tomorrow in Kulas Musical Arts Building, Gamble. Go check it out. It’s pretty awesome stuff.

Peace.

Scheduling and Two Dollar Pizza

October 25, 2008

This week was full of things I haven’t done in a while. On Tuesday, I had scheduling (the most devilish part of the year) and it actually worked out pretty well. I got into all the classes I needed except one and I’m getting added to it on Monday. So, I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of this semester’s scheduling. Then, on Thursday, I went to two dollar pizza by CAB (commuter activity board) for the first time this semester. My friend Katie and I used to go every thursday but we just haven’t had time this semester. I was a little crowded and we didn’t get as much pizza as last year, but i still got four slices of pizza for two dollars, which is a better deal than you will ever find anywhere on campus. So, yeah this week was surprisingly fun. I’ll keep you posted on my weekend. Then next time, something.
