So Short

November 30, 2008

Well this break just flew by. I seriously think it’s been like a regular two day weekend. Filled with botany and organic chemistry like a regular weekend too. They should make every weekend here a three day weekend just so students can stay caught up. Well this week doesn’t have much going on for it. I’m just going to start preparing for final tests and finals (yes, two separate things). Aside from that, not much. MNM will probably be midnight breakfast this week or next. They normally do that one of the last MNMs of fall semester. Its like breakfast for a dollar, i think all you can eat. Its a pretty good MNM. Aside from that, i have no idea what’s going on on campus. I’ve been away from the posters for too long i guess. I’ll let you know whats happening on campus these last two weeks once i get back. Have a good rest of the weekend, all eight and a half hours of it.

Thanksgiving

November 27, 2008

Thanksgiving break. Beautiful words. Thus far I’ve worked the Cavs games last night (big win over the Thunder). Then I came home last night and watched a few episodes of the Wire. This morning I’ve been in and out of the kitchen helping with dinner. While out of the kitchen, I’ve been switching between the Titans game (who I cheer against because they are my friends favorite team) and last weeks Life on Mars. I have finally just had time to lay around and do nothing and it’s great. This break couldn’t have come at a better time. Just two weeks left of school after this. I hope your turkey days are going just as relaxing as mine. Til next time, eat some bird.

‘Twas the Day Before Thanksgiving….

November 26, 2008

‘Twas the day before Thanksgiving, and I was still here at B-W.

The snow is on the ground and the sun is shining quite high.

I’m here in my room working on a power point for class, I sighed….

Later I must drive home, to be with my family for Thanksgiving.

My stay will be short for I have to come back Sunday…

So for a few days it will be well spent with my family, and eating something, don’t know if it will be a Turkey.

So Happy Thanksgiving to everyone as well. Have a safe week, and that all goes swell.

Sophomore Seminar, and other news.

November 23, 2008

Well, I’m starting to get nervous. This time tomorrow, for better or for worse, I’ll be finished with my Sophomore Biology Seminar. That is, I’ll still have to show up for classes, but my big presentation will be over with. I’m going to be talking about Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (better known as Mad Cow Disease). Part of me is really excited, because it’s a topic I find really interesting. I’m not going to go into a bunch of detail, because it’s a bunch of technical stuff that will probably bore most of you. But the majority of me is worried, because this project has been one problem after another, and with the way things have been going the projector is going to explode or something. I’ve written and re-written enough abstracts and presentations that I’m pretty sure I’ve killed a tree all by myself. But at this point, I’m trying to smother that nervous side with House re-runs and nail polish, because I know there’s nothing else I can do.

In the “other news” category, I saw Twilight the night before last. I was excited to go see it just as much for the entertainment of watching all the screaming fangirls as I was excited for the actual movie. I have to say that it was pretty decent, especially for a book turned into a movie. I’m actually looking forward to the next movie quite a bit.

And that’s all the news today. So wish me luck, guys! One way or another, I’ll be done tomorrow, and then it’s no more work for me over Thanksgiving (except for the fruit flies).

Oh, the weather outside is frightful…

November 23, 2008

So for me, this week has been pretty miserable. Not that it has had to do with any of my classes, or anything. No, it’s just that this week, we’ve had TONS of snow. I remember in highschool, when snow was a reason to celebrate, on the chance of a snowday. However, in college it usually just means that your ten minute walk across campus has become a fifteen minute drudge through the blustery cold. Not to mention I now need an extra five minutes to get ready to leave. Mittens, scarf, hat, snowboots and coat are all very necessary if you are to make it across campus without freezing to death.

On the bright side however, thanksgiving break is almost here. These three days plus weekend are just what I need to revitalize before finals. Not to mention, I can spend all the cold days snug inside. Naturally, papers will still need to be written and violin practiced, but I think that being home will give me that second wind I need to make it through finals.

That’s all folks
Peace.

This Year My Teachers Have Been Kind

November 22, 2008

My teachers have finally, in my senior year, been kind to me come November. I normally spend my thanksgiving break writing a paper or study for a test but all my teachers are getting that busy out of the way on monday and tuesday before break. So when I come back, I’ll i have to worry about it finals. Mind you, i will be study for finals over break but at least i won’t be pushed for time like i have been every other year thus far in my college career. Thats super awesome of them. Yes, i just used the term super awesome. Aside from that, not much news. Just trudging along until thanksgiving break rolls around and i get to not deal with work for awhile. I hope all of you have a good thanksgiving and i’m sure i’ll write this week sometime. Til then, have good ones.

Fabulous Friday people!

November 22, 2008

So last night was absolutely splendid!

Let me run through the course of events.

My friend rebecca wanted to see the musical Parade at school. Since I had not seen it yet I decided that we should go together. It ended up being 5 of us, Jake, Rebecca, Katie, Me, and Sam. Prior to the show we went to Nuevo Acapulco, a mexican restaurant right up front street. El Alimento fue Muy Delicioso! Moving on to the play, it was absolutely phenomenal! I was so impressed at how amazing out musical theatre program is!
Afterwards my friends and I did not know what to do. Well we have this knack for being really good at making music videos (haha).

SO!
We did a recreation to Disturbia
i hope you like it

Besides that school is finally winding down. I’m in the process of finishing two papers and studying for finals. Ugh its extremely exhausting! But… I get to go back to chicago on monday evening! I’m so excited to see all my friends. Alright I NEED to write this paper.

It’s The End of The Line…..

November 22, 2008

Well, Time goes fast when you’re having fun… Not really.

It’s almost the end of semester. Thanksgiving is coming up, the roads are covered with snow, and I’m finishing up classes. I had the great experience of having four group projects. I’m personally not a fan of group projects. I love working in teams, but I like being accountable for myself when it comes to grades.

Apparently all the classes I have, there’s this notion to have group projects. Yay… No..
But, I kept at it and worked hard. And you know what? It’s paying off. My projects have been good, my papers are on time, and I’m not losing any sleep on not having things done.

College does teach you something and it is to organize… Being able to schedule time for classes, homework, projects, and a social life is a tough blancing act. It’s always better if you get it down early.

Bad habits in highschool will follow you into College, and it’s true. Weak study habits and procrastination are some bad attributes. So here’s my shout out to those who are trying to end the semester strong. You can do it, just keep your head up and everything will be fine.

Conservatory Outreach

November 21, 2008

Have you ever harbored a secret desire to learn to sing or play an instrument? Maybe you’re debating about going into the Conservatory, but are worried that you will end up not liking it? Well, BW offers the Conservatory Outreach for all students and community members. Some Con. teachers give lessons while others are teachers from Cleveland Institute of Music (or their graduates) and there are beginner to advanced levels of lessons that one can take. I originally was looking at BW for Viola Performance, but for multiple reasons decided to come here for IS and Spanish. However, the lessons I’ve had through the Outreach have been fantastic. The price isn’t too bad (and you can add it onto your college bill, so your parents get to pay it. yay!) and changes depending on who is your teacher (usually the lovely con. professors cost more). A lot of students use the outreach. My suitemate takes singing lessons, and although she gets annoyed with her lesson instructor sometimes, she has stuck with it as she feels that they still do a good job. Another friend of mine has always wanted to play the drums, but has only ever done so in high school marching band. So he’s taking lessons through the Outreach program as well.
It’s a pretty fabulous option if you ask me. You get to take lessons and not have to deal with harmony and solfege (yuck!). Nothing against anyone who likes those course, but…. why would you? Anyway, that’s off topic.
If you really want to be a secret opera star or play an instrument fantastically, then consider the Outreach program.

Fiction Paper

November 21, 2008

Today I got back my paper for Intro to Fiction. I felt like the prompt was somewhat difficult to wrap my head around…and my writing (especially in only four pages). And being the procrastinator that I am, I put it off until the last night and didn’t finish it until a few minutes before class started! (Note: Do not recommend this strategy for essay writing. Definitely give yourself plenty of time!!) Buuuut when Professor Harakas handed back our papers today I was shocked…and ECSTATIC to see that I had gotten an A!!! I guess he liked my ideas after all! Secretly I thought that maybe that is is the trick! Write it in one night and you’ll get an A. But I was quickly reminded of how stressful that night was. I will decidedly never do that again!
