The Local Library!!!

March 31, 2009

So I really needed a foreign film for my film class. I checked Blockbuster video, Hollywood video, and a couple video stores down the street from B-W. So after no luck, I ended up back at B-W, just to leave and go on a nice walk to the local library. B-W has its own library which is named Ritter, however, there are just some things that a local public library can handle.

So I signed up for a library card and viewed the massive selection of movies. About a ten minute walk gets you to the Library. In the front of the library is Coe Lake. It’s this huge lake that has several paths, a fountain, and a large gazebo. It was a sweet sight. So to kill more time I ended just walking up and down downtown Berea and window shopping at all the different vendors. One really cool store is this clock shop. They have all these expensive works of art of clocks. I mean who knew there were so many different types of clocks. I sure didn’t know.

Well, it’s been a couple of rough days so far, working on papers and just chugging through. Hopefully I can last this week. To my comfy bed I go.

Seminars and Apartments

March 31, 2009

Every other year, B-W offers these programs called Seminar in Ecuador and Seminar in Europe. Basically, the people in these programs spend part of a semester taking classes on campus, then spend the rest of the semester either in Ecuador or Europe, traveling around and studying. The Ecuador program focuses on Biology and Spanish, and the Europe program focuses on Art and English. There’s an extra program fee, but that and your tuition covers everything but vaccines and anything extra you want.

Why am I telling you about this? Well, as of last week, I’m officially going on the Ecuador seminar! I didn’t want to say anything before I knew for sure. But I’m so excited!

In other news, I’m also going to be living in an apartment next year. B-W owns 4 apartment buildings that count as on-campus housing. One of them happens to be right by the science buildings, so that’s where I’m going to be living next year.

Have I mentioned that I’m excited? Because I’m excited.

FINALLY!

March 31, 2009

It’s starting to feel like spring, especially with a high of 68 degrees on Wednesday, I’m so looking forward to April!
Anyways hello world, how are you all doing? I just got out of english class and im taking a minute outside enjoying this increasingly warm weather, along with reaping the benefits of having wi-fi on our campus :)
This past weekend in Chicago was AMAZING! Our team went 3-3 which is getting better and right in time. Next week we leave for nationals in Kansas City, MO! WOOHOO!!! haha We are finally gelling together and feeling like a team.

School is finally winding down so I MUST FOCUS!
I’ll come back later with more details on class scheduling/volleyball/etc…

TGIF!!!!

March 27, 2009

Oh man, what a week. Generally I wouldn’t be too tired on a friday night, but it’s just been back to back to back busy week.

So let’s recap…

In statistics I had an exam that was extremely fun *sarcasm*
I did a few stupid mistakes and that went really well

In LAS class, We have a paper that is due on the 3rd of April, but somehow I got it done in two days. First part on Wednesday night, followed up by writing the rest yesterday. For some reason I just couldn’t fall asleep, so what is better than writing papers? Lols.

In my Criminal Justice Class, just the same usual lectures, but it just gets more and more complicated as time goes… Oh well, no one said classes were easy.

Film class was quite interesting and is in a category of itself. One group started presenting information on Italian films and we saw a film. I can’t recall what it was, but it was… Different.

And then my final class, American National Government. I have a paper due a while from today and I have yet to start it. Great right? I’m just getting tired, and it is no time to just stop. Naps however have been extremely helpful and I love sleep.

I would totally sleep in tomorrow, but alas I have Saturday of service which is a community service program setup through Office of Community Outreach, which is just one of B-W’s many organizations. To sleep I shall, G’night all.

Most Tired

Best Week Ever

March 26, 2009

Disclaimer: this has not been the best week ever. That was a fabrication.

This has possibly been my most hectic week ever at BW. The two Monday tests went alright enough. The practical today, well, instead of studying for eight hours on Wed, I should have worked on my presentation for tomorrow. It would not have been a waste of eight hours for the impossibility that was this mornings practical. I took three breaks writing that previous sentence; I hope it makes sense. I’m to tired to reread it. And tomorrow I have the presentation and a paper revision due in my English class. In the words of my grandfather, oy vey. This week cannot end soon enough. Well, off to the grind stone. Lesson to be learned here: Don’t take three science classes in a semester. Ever. I’m doing it again next semester, just ps. Well, have a great weekend. I’ll be crying alone. BYE!

Community Research Institute . . . or a name like that

March 25, 2009

:)
The Community Research Institute is in the basement of Malicky, the Political Science/International Studies/Psychology/Sociology Building. Two of the Poli. Sci professors, Tom Sutton and Mark Mattern, usually send out an email once a semester asking for students to help out with the Institute by working on phone surveys and calling people. Now, doesn’t seem so glamorous, right? What about when you get paid $12/hr? Next to the nice salary for about two weeks (the surveys don’t usually last much longer), to my surprise, the actually activity of calling people, and then taking group breaks with other poli. sci students, is not as horrible as it sounds. There are some rather sweet people who take the time to answer the surveys, and proceed to tell you past experiences they’ve had with the survey’s topic, or who just go out of their way to make good conversation. Of course, there are the people who hang up on you, but, that’s life :)

Been a Minute…

March 23, 2009

So I know I haven’t blogged in quite a while, so for everyone who missed me here I am. Let’s try to think of recent news. A while back I stayed up studying and doing work for a good 40 or so hours. I think it was maybe 5 papers I wrote in a single night, or something like that. Not the most fun of experiences. Then for spring break I really didn’t do anything, which I regret… I know there were a ton of people from BW who went to Panama, or at least some place in Florida. But, due to lack of planning and funds, my group of friends and I just stayed at our respective homes. Which wasn’t terrible, don’t get me wrong. I recently have done a community scan project for my one education class, where I went and observed North Olmsted and learned all about it. It’s a cool place, and I’m actually presenting tomorrow on it. It’s nice, because I thought I was presenting last Tuesday, did all the work, and came to find out it was on the 24th, so it’s definitely nice to have all my work done in advance for a change. Also, last Thursday my next door neighbor and I had overnighters stay with us, and that was the first time I’d actually taken one. That wasn’t half bad at all, and I felt like an old hand at BW showing them all around and telling them what I know. In general, however, things have been going just fine around the dorms, I just felt the need to fill in some of the blanks that have going around here, and I’ll be sure to keep everyone updated on my eternally exciting exploits. But now, to do some unprocrastinated homework (I’ll pat myself on the back).

WOOHOO basically one more month!

March 23, 2009

HEY YALL!
sorry I have been so AWOL once again, I feel like I always have some excuse but my grandma just came out of the hospital so things have been pretty hectic around the house. Let me bring you guys back up to speed.

Spring break was absoultely phenomenal. All kinds of crazy. My mom had to leave unfortunately because of my grandma but I ended up going to University of Illinois to visit my friend amanda. We went out to Joe’s this dance club, and it was a blast!

St. Patrick’s Day was also ridiculous! All the volleyball guys just chilled at the volleyball house with some of our friends. Then it turned into one massive dance party (and I love my dance parties)

Once I got back to school, I realized that I would be back in Chicago that upcoming Thursday for an Arts Management Networking trip. Arts Management is one of the many clubs offered her at BW. This one particularly pertains to students who are interested in arts (music, dance, theatre, visual etc…) and we meet once a month. Our big trip to Chicago was a huge success we did everything. Went to The Steppenwolfe Theatre, The Art Institute, we even saw Mary Poppins, which was beyond amazing!

Thats pretty much it for now except for the fact that I shallbe back in Chicago AGAIN THIS WEEKEND!
This time for a volleyball tournament at Northern Illinois University. I actually like it though, I mean I have been home three times this month which makes my mother very happy!
I’ll write again soon i promise!
Until next time,

Jehu

It’s early in the morning!!!!!!!!

March 23, 2009

Ok, so it is 8:49 am on this lovely Monday morning. I had an exam in my Statistics class, and it was fun. No really it was. I’ve been really busy this weekend due to many things.

First off, I don’t live too far away from campus. And by far I mean I can get home so it doesn’t take forever. My mom had foot surgery so I jumped on the highway for about 40 mins or so on Friday. Did some of my homework at home, help my mom hobble around the house, made meals for my siblings, and GOT MY CLOTHES WASHED!!! The washer and dryers here at B-W are fine, but I enjoy washing clothes at my house because I can adjust the settings and the dry time. At BW, there is three main wash cycles (Bright, Whites, and Colors) and three main dry cycles (Same as before). As for some of you may know, over drying leads to clothes shrinking, so my larges are somewhere between a mid large to a medium. And washing clothes at home is free, compared to the whole $3 or so I would spend (Poor college student remember).

Secondly, Saturday was my Fraternity’s “Founder’s Day”. My fraternity Pi Lambda Phi held this celebration because on that very day, in 1895, 3 men who were denied entry into fraternities because of their religion, decided to start their own. It was a great event that I helped with. It consisted of a a formal dinner, alumni speaking, current Brothers speaking as well, and what it means to be a Pi Lam. My fraternity had friends and family at the event, it was sheer awesomeness….

Thirdly, Homework and scheduling for classes. As with many other students, I though the week before spring break was going to be bad, for some reason, with the other half of the semester approaching faster, “we” college students lose our heads and freak out. Papers, projects, reports, etc….. I’m just chugging along and trying not to procrastinate too much. Let’s see how that goes.

Wasn’t this last week?

March 22, 2009

The week before spring break is the first all out crazy week of the semester. You know, midterms and all. And the second, and final, crazy week is suppose to me finals. But this upcoming week (week 10 to some, week beat me with a rubber hose to me) is going to be more intense than midterms week. I have two tests tomorrow in Zoology and OChem, a lab practical on Thurs and a paper and presentation on Fri. Oy. I already want this week to be over and it hasn’t even started (or it just started, depending on your definition of Sunday (this doesn’t matter!)). So, like i said, come this weekend I’m going to be very relieved. One good thing this week is an old friend from high school is coming to visit so i’m really looking forward to that. She was one of my besties (yes, i used the term bestie) from back in the day (yes, i used back in the day). I know i know, the nineties called, they want their lingo back. I get it. ok? OKAY??? sorry, i’m losing it a bit. well, have a pleasant 5 hours of remaining weekend. I’ll blog this week if i don’t lose it. Catch you on the flip.
