The Aftermath of Finals week, and farewell to B-Dubs :(

May 9, 2009

So Here I sit, at the computer after checking out of my room at 2:30 PM… It’s 12:30ish Am…

I just spent that past 6 hours unpacking all my stuff from school. Who knew I would end up with so much more stuff that I had before going to school? Weird…

Anyways, a recap on finals week. I took a total of five finals earlier this week. The two hardest ones were back to back on Thursday. That was a lot of fun. Nothing like statistics bright and early followed by a criminal justice final. Just my luck right? Anyways for the most part, I feel pretty good about my finals and hopefully I did well on them.

A lot of people started heading home on Thursday night, myself could have, but i opted not to rush out of B-W and enjoy my last night there. I ended up spending time with friends, going out for food, and just walking around B-W’s campus. It’s amazing what a school year it has been. There has been ups and downs as with anything in life, but wow… It sure has moved.

This is probably going to be my last blog for the time being, and I’ll write when something interesting happens. For my lovely readers, here are some things…

1) When going to college, don’t bring so much, and expect to bring more stuff home

2) Organize all your stuff accordingly and bring lots of trash bags, it makes moving in and out easier…

3) Bring a large vehicle to move stuff… A sub compact like a 94 civic coupe isn’t going to cut it.

4) I (David) will be a Weekend of Welcome worker in the Fall, say hi to me when you bump into me.

5) Lastly, have a safe summer, good luck with the rest of school, and have fun!!!

Finals are Done (almost)

May 6, 2009

All my finals are coming to a close. Vert, Eng 305, Zoo and Ochem Lab are all locked up and in the bank. That, my friends, means they are finished and completed. It’s my own little language that doesn’t make any sense. But, yes, my finals are done except for a practical and an Organic Chemistry test. Neither should be too bad, thankfully. Then, it’s summer class and research, then fall semester then done. WOO!!! I love when semesters end; its one step closer to the end of college. One large step that takes fifteen weeks. So, incoming freshmen, here’s advice. Don’t dread examine week, embrace it! It means you have, at most, five days of school left til a jumbo break. And boy its that break great. Til, next time, have a great week.

Finals Done, But Not Finally Done

May 6, 2009

So I just got out of my last final. I had two on each Monday, Tuesday and today, and BOY have I been in need of sleep. I stayed up all night Sunday night since Monday had my hardest tests (aka Spanish, enough said) and was only able to nap for like 2 hours before having to do other things on Monday. Yesterday was the worst, though, since I’ve been catching up on a bunch of things from throughout the semester, like Spanish cultural events and community hours for my Diversity class. I’ve been really messed up for the community hours, though, since the placement people failed to schedule me and a few others for our times, so we’ve basically been fending for ourselves and having to jump all around the area trying to get in hours. Yesterday and today have been the final two, and I’ve been serving meals to disadvantaged people downtown. I’ll be leaving in a few hours to finally get that done, but then I’ve got to type a few papers by tomorrow as reflections for the experiences. I don’t see how long that could possibly take, so as soon as I get back I want to pound those out and be done with everything by tonight. I could technically have left today, but I’m definitely staying until Friday so I can hang out and have fun these last few days before returning to the doldrums at home. All in all, my finals really weren’t tough, as I put in a ton of studying for each of them and I knew what to expect… so there’s some advice to everyone, and that is to above all know specifically what’s going to be on the tests, something that took until now for me to really really take advantage of. Well, here’s hoping to some awesome grades, a swift end to today’s work, and not wanting the year to end since school is so much more fun than home.

A Time To Sleep In… Yes!!

May 4, 2009

So today for the whole student body of B-W’s campus….. People had finals. Except me!

So for the first time this semester, I got to sleep in till noon. It was amazing. Sure, I still have five finals to go back to back to back, but I GOT TO SLEEP IN. IT WAS AMAZING!!!

It has been hectic as least. I have been studying statistics, national government, criminal justice corrections, and film to the point that I just want to go home and not take my finals. I have been studying like its my job, and well, I hope I do well on the finals.

Also, this whole week, people have been cleaning out their rooms. Put it this way, carrying a couch in is easier than taking it back out and putting it up a couple flights of stairs. To those who are coming to B-W, bring a futon.

I have to get back to my lovely studying. Hopefully I make it through this week alive

Last Day of Classes etc.

May 1, 2009

Today is a somewhat bittersweet day. It is the last day of classes this year. I absolutely canNOT wrap my mind around having completed freshman year. I mean maybe it’s not that big of a deal. But, no, it sort of is. I feel like it was yesterday that I was filling out applications and freaking out cause I had no idea where I was going. And here I am a year later taking my finals. I have really loved this year at BW. It took a little while to get used to being away from home but I feel like I’ve grown a lot. Not just academically but i guess in other ways too. It’s been crazy to live my own life outside of home and away from my family. The independence has been really nice in the sense that I get to make my own decisions and sort of figure out a little more about myself and my beliefs.

Though I am wicked excited to go home, it will definitely be strange to be back. And to fit myself back into “family life”. But August will come rather quickly I’m sure and then I will be back at BW for sophomore year! Happy Summer everyone!

Random Uniformed Students

May 1, 2009

So the other day there was this random group of students parading around campus. Why did they stick out? Because they were garbed in matching navy jackets and plaid skirts (girls). Boys with ties and loafers. They looked like they’d escaped some sort of boarding school and were ready to take over the Baldwin-Wallace campus. I first spotted them in front of Marting. Hands in pockets and shirts half untucked they were charging towards the Union in their loosely formed pack. I furrowed my brow and dismissed my curiosity.

Later, in the Union they were all attempting to buy lunch. They were only allowed hotdogs and pretzels. One rebellious girl attempted to get pudding. The lunch lady was not going to let that fly. “You’ll have to pay for that with your own money if you want that.” So I guess the hotdogs were free… Hmm. The girl seemed irritated, her jaw clenching and her fist tightening around the plastic pudding cup. I wanted to tell her to just slip it in her purse or something. Rules are lame. Made to be broken, or whatever. But encouraging dining hall theft probably wasn’t a great idea so I resisted. Maybe we should have started a box outside for “food donations for random uniformed students”. Oh well. The mystery children were going to have to settle for hotdogs this time.
