Last Day… of a Lot of Things

April 30, 2010

Today was the last day of regular classes at BW, and it’s a breath of relief for a lot of people, I’m sure. I only had my Literature of Rock and Roll today, and I admit that it’s in a way sad to have such a cool class come and go like that. I wish all classes were as interesting as that, but not to say I’m bored by other ones. I liked my communication class a lot, and that’s increasingly become a field I’m interested in. Oh, also, today was the last day of my student teaching, something I’ve failed to mention until now. I was placed in a middle school over in Elyria a half hour away, and that was a nice experience. I had 8th grade language arts, and the kids and teachers were all goo to me there. The best part of the whole experience there was the teaching of George Orwell’s Animal Farm I did. I mean, I like Animal Farm and all, but just the fact that I taught a book was really great to me. That’s essentially what I’ll be doing as a teacher someday, so it was really nice to get my feet wet with the teaching of literature. I led a class discussion, going over the events and interpretations of the novel, just like back in high school and even some college classes. I thought it went well, even if I was a little pressed for time that day… but managing time is something I’ll continue to improve at as a teacher, so again it’s good to get this practice. So overall I’ve had a good experience there, and overall a pretty good semester. I think that academically this should end up as one of my better semesters, so there’s always that. And my finals aren’t looking too difficult… so I’d say a studious-yet-not-over-stressful (aka 1 hour of sleep a night) weekends is in store as I prepare for the last of my junior year.

8 Days

April 29, 2010

So part of me wanted to put “Mile” as the second word in my title, but I fought the urge. I just thought I should share that with you.

Only a few more days until finals, and I can easily say I don’t feel horrendously stressed out. Yes, I have three finals, a paper, and a portfolio due, but either I think it’s going to be easy or my mind is deceiving me. But I’m gonna start preparing studying stuff tonight after I go to dinner at my boyfriend’s house and help him back up his computer because he’s a dork and messed it up. But I digress. I think that I have one of the more manageable schedules this semester despite the fact that I am taking a full credit load.

We just had a hall meeting last night about check out procedures, which is kind of scary. I’ve already taken a great majority of clothes home that I won’t be wearing in the next two weeks and my parents will be coming next week to take all of my stuff home. Oh. My. Goodness. It’s so weird. I don’t know what to expect going home for the summer. I hope it’s not as bad as I think it will be.

Oh… and random fact! I finally got Pokemon. So in addition to my semi-lack of motivation for studying, I have Pokemon Soul Silver to distract me. And this whole Pokewalker thing is ridiculously fun! Lol. XD

Alright….I will probably post again next week before it’s time to leave.

Good luck to everyone on finals!

Post-Reign, Year Closing

April 28, 2010

My god, it’s been a while since I’ve blogged… sorry about that, but the end of the year can be pretty busy as I’m sure any student could tell you. But let’s get right down to business: April Reign, first off, was fun as always. I went to all the events but chariot this year (I’ve yet to do that), and they were as entertaining as ever. One of my roommates and a few friends did the obstacle course. They didn’t do so hot, but it was all out of fun. The down side of this year was that it was ridiculously rainy, as opposed to the last two years where it was like 80 degrees and sunny, but you can’t win them all. And of course, now it’s been like 40 the past few days and I’ve had to break the winter comforter back out for my bed. Other than that, classes and schoolwork haven’t been too bad lately since all my work got dumped on me the previous week. I mentioned those 10-pagers, a research paper and all my work from then, and yes, the whole doing work ahead of time actually helped a lot (imagine that!). I think I’m onto something there. As far as the year closing, I have mixed feelings. I never like when school ends because a lot of friends leave for the summer, but on the other hand I don’t have any schoolwork to do. I have work of course, but I’m hoping to make some big bucks this summer, since lord knows my wallet is aching from use right now. Rent’s been a real killer for me, as well as car payments, food… Actually, I’ve been eating off my Jacket Express a lot lately since I overcompensated at the beginning of the semester, so it hasn’t been that bad. Plus, only three more months on the lease at the ol’ house… and I haven’t QUITE figured out next year’s living arrangements, but no worries there. The rest of the year should sail smoothly, since I’ve already smartly taken measures to prepare for finals and don’t have that much left these days. I’d say I’m getting pretty good at being a college student, so bring on finals next week.

It’s Wednesday!!!

April 28, 2010

Hey all,
I’ve been so busy this week. These professors have this thing for making everything due the week before finals…. Seriously, Why?

Anyways, I had two papers, a project, and a presentation. I am just glad that it is over.

April Reign was this past weekend. It’s a large field day event and different organizations put a team together for the different events. After all the events are said and done, there’s a concert. This year it was Hello Goodbye. I didn’t get the chance to make the concert, but I got some work done. So it’s all good for me.

Some pics as always…. Also a shout out to Maria Carbenia…. She’s pretty awesome. No lie.

What I’m doing right now

April 28, 2010

Times at BW aren’t always as intense. Sometimes, you can sit back for an hour at the end of the year and eat a nice relaxed lunch with fellow bloggers and friends, and take ridiculous photobooth pictures while eating spicy chicken strips and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Ps. The PB&Js at Lang are out of this world. They do imitate them in the main union but there just isn’t the same amount of love. Love makes all the difference. Love is all you need. Write it down.

Sam and I, warping our faces.

Work Study

April 21, 2010

So, for my work-study (this program through the school where you can apply for an on or off-campus job) I work at PArma-Ridge and Brook Park libraries with young boys and girls from the areas surrounding elementary schools. I have to say, this experience has really opened my eyes to the rewards and downfalls of teaching. Being a tutor with this age group is almost exactly like being a teacher (only of one student, not 25 or 30). If the children misbehave, you have to discipline. You have to learn which ways get through to which students. It truly is an art. I can honestly say coming away from this work that teaching could be one of my options for life involvement.

Work and more work :/

April 21, 2010

Hi all,
it’s been a while since my last post. I’ve been ridiculously busy this past two weeks. So just a couple updates. I lost my voice because I am a caller for the Tug of War event for April Reign. Tug of War here at B-W is different than most places. Instead of standing up, people dig pits in the sand and set up boards and lay down. It’s my job to yell at them and tell them to keep pulling or other said commands… I’m not a yeller by any means and now i sound like I have black lung and laryngitis. Oh wells.

I planned an event that is called Meet, Mingle, and Mocktails. The event is basically speed dating, getting to know people and get some mocktails as well. I had about 65 people show up, so I was thrilled that it went well.

Another event that is coming to a close is being held today. My Sociology class is having a banquet to present awards to the community partners that our class worked with all semester. So that should be very interesting at the least.

Lastly,
Papers, papers, and more papers. I have two large papers I need to finish by next week. A data analysis project also due next week, and….. another presentation? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
*bang head on desk*

It’s the price you pay for going to school. Ah higher education.

Wow…We’re Almost Done

April 21, 2010

So, you guys. We only have eight more days of classes. I keep thinking about it and freaking out because it sucks. Because A) That means finals are in less than two weeks, B) We have to leave for the summer, C) I need to go summer job hunting.

Okay. So the last one is slightly optional because I got a job here on Campus at Registration and Records over the summer, which will help a lot, but the amount of money a spend at school definitely outweighs the amount of money I will be making over the summer here at school.

If there’s any advice that I can give you that will help your financial load in college at BW, it’s to watch your money on your Jacket Express. I know a lot of people who end up running out of money and having to ask their parents, or take a lot of money out of their own pocket to survive the last two or three weeks of school. I don’t know how I did it, but I still have over $900 left on my card. And the awesome thing is that however much money I have left on my card will go to my tuition for next year, which definitely helps out my family a lot.

But I’m kinda freaked out to be moving back home because I’ve been away for so long and moving back in with the parents and not being able to run off whenever I like, and now have to drive because nothing will be in walking distance anymore, will be difficult. But I’m definitely excited for next year because things seem to be going very well so far.

So I’m mixed about all this. I’ll come back in a few days and tell you how I feel then.

It’s officially okay to start crying about school.

April 14, 2010

Hello world,

Thank you for being so patient and kind with me during my times of stress. Let me bring you up to speed.

Volleyball is officially over (yay). We finished ninth, which isn’t horrible, but we could have done alot better. I’m so proud of my team and the struggles we went through (injuries) so it doesn’t really matter what we finished.

Currently, I’m trying not to have a mental break down about school. SO MUCH TO DO!!! I have to make up a midterm this week, I have two papers and a group presentation all before next tuesday. woof. my. life.

I’m trying to remind myself to push hard these last two weeks until finals because it will all be worth it when summer is here! Which reminds me, I will be staying in Berea this summer working in admissions. So if anyone, decided to take a tour this summer, 9 times out of 10 i’ll probably be giving it. woot woot.

Anyway, I should probably start some kind of work, I hope everyone is well and have a fabulous week.

withlove,

jehu

Please Fasten Seatbelts, It’s going to be a bumpy ride

April 13, 2010

I am glad that I am not the only person stressing out because the end of the school year is near…. I’ve been so scatterbrained and stressing that it’s probably not good for me.

So you’re asking, “David, Why are you so stressed?” Well, I am part of a selection board for my one class that gets to give out money to different organizations that need money. The really terrible thing is this, there are four groups, but only three can get money. So it was a very hard decision to pick who to give money to and who not to give money too. It makes me feel terrible. Next, well just papers in general. I despise paper writing, but whatever, it’s papers and it’s necessary. Lastly, I’m VP of Programming for Inter fraternity Council (governing body of Fraternities). My one event is coming up and I have been all over the place making sure everything is in line and everything is taken care of. I guess it’s kinda like them bridezillas on wedding day… ‘Cept I’m a man and not getting married. Lols…

So there you have it.
But, I have been able to relax a bit as well. I went to my GF’s formal, play some video games, and chillax (chilling and relaxing) with my Fraternity Brothers.

So just a pic. yay!

I also think Cornhole is a terrible game… Grrr.
